Goodwood Revival video shoot 2016

The Goodwood Revival is an amazing annual 3 day celebration of the romance and glamour of motor racing as it used to be.  The Revival is the only historic race meeting to be staged entirely in period dress and is a return to the halcyon days of Goodwood as the spiritual home of British motor racing.  In 2016 I was commissioned by Goodwood to shoot a couple of short videos at the Revival, the first of which was looking specifically at the incredible style and fashion of the visitors at the event.  The Revival is not meant as an opportunity for fancy dress but more a chance to seek out and wear true vintage clothing in whatever form you choose.  Furs, frocks, stockings or spats - it's all there - along with uniforms, period policemen and all manner of other characters all dressed to compliment the amazing range of cars and bikes that are being raced around the track by both legends of the sport as well as all manner of motor racing enthusiasts .

The brief was to capture a taste of the event from the perspective of style and fashion, focusing more on those wearing true vintage attire.  I chose to shoot on the Canon C100 mkll with the 24-105mm F4 IS lens.  This is a great combo for this sort of run and gun work - it was mostly shot handheld or on a monopod since neither time nor space really allowed for use of a tripod.

Edited and graded in Final Cut Pro X.

Marshalling at the Goodwood Motor Circuit

According to the Goodwood website -

"The Goodwood Members’ Meeting is a new style of motor racing event, conceived by Lord March to recreate the atmosphere and camaraderie of the original BARC Members’ Meetings held ‘in period’ at Goodwood through the 1950s and 1960s.

Uniquely, as well as a full programme of racing, the Members’ Meeting offers visitors the chance to see demonstrations of racing cars never seen here in period. "

I took the opportunity at this years MM74 to take a look at the work of the volunteer marshals who work at all BARC run events looking after many aspects of the racing such as fire safety, pit lane safety, radio operation etc.

The Members Meeting is a great place to see historic period cars racing - but without the crowds of the big events such as the Revival.
